Question: What do you call a mini earthquake?

What is a small earthquake called?

Sometimes an earthquake has foreshocks. These are smaller earthquakes that happen in the same place as the larger earthquake that follows. Scientists cant tell that an earthquake is a foreshock until the larger earthquake happens. The largest, main earthquake is called the mainshock.

What are mini quakes?

A foreshock is an earthquake that occurs before a larger seismic event (the mainshock) and is related to it in both time and space. The designation of an earthquake as foreshock, mainshock or aftershock is only possible after the full sequence of events has happened.
